Umeda Sky Building (梅田スカイビル)

Saturday, 21 April 2018

After visiting Osaka Castle (大阪城), we to go hunting for food and visit the next attraction in our itinerary: Umeda Sky Building (梅田スカイビル), two high-rise buildings connected by the famous Floating Garden Observatory. At 170m above ground, the observatory is donut-shaped and offers unobstructed 360-degree views of Osaka city.

When I looked up "food to eat in Osaka", okonomiyaki would always be on the list. Therefore, we planned to have lunch at Kiji Okonomiyaki (お好み焼 きじ), located on the basement level of Umeda Sky Building. Unfortunately, we didn't get the chance to cook the noodles or okonomiyaki ourselves, but it still tasted pretty good. The okonomiyaki we had actually tasted like a big takoyaki (haha).

The restaurant is cosy one and evidently visited by many people from around the world as they would even leave short messages (and even international currency!) pinned on the wall. We, of course, left a message too :)

It was around 3:20pm when we finished (we had a late lunch), but it was too early to go up to the observatory as we wanted to see Osaka's skyline late evening-night. Therefore, we just sat in a nearby café, ordered some drinks and did some people watching.

When we arrived at the Umeda Sky Building, there were hardly any tourists around, but as the sun started to set, around 4:30pm, it started to get crowded fast. We eventually made our way up to the observatory at around 5:00pm—leaving just enough time to catch about 15 minutes of an Osaka sunset and to avoid any big crowds. It was dark at around 5:30pm, so we just spent another half an hour taking photos of the night view and left at around 6:00pm.
