Osaka Castle (大阪城)

Saturday, 21 April 2018

On our first full day in Osaka, we decided to visit Osaka Castle (大阪城), one of Japan's most famous castles and known attractions in the city. Beautifully surrounded by a moat, the castle is five-storey high on the outside, and eight stories on the inside. However, unlike its traditional exterior finishes, Osaka Castle is now constructed with modern interiors and houses a museum filled with artifacts on display. Entry into the castle is ‎¥500 for adults.

I was actually quite disappointed by the interiors of the castle because I was expecting that at least some historical structures would've been retained given its history, but it was entirely renovated like most museums. I did like experiencing the 360 degree view of Osaka from the top of the castle though, but unless you're a history junkie, I wouldn't really recommend going into the museum itself—admiring the castle's outside glory and taking photos of it from afar would be enough.
