Momofuku Ando Instant Ramen Museum (インスタントラーメン発明記念館)

Since we were in the country of origin of instant noodles, we made sure to take time to visit the Momofuku Ando Instant Ramen Museum (インスタントラーメン発明記念館), or the Cup Noodles Museum, in Ikeda (池田市), Osaka. There are a number of exhibitions and attractions in the museum itself, but the highlight for us was the "My CUPNOODLES Factory", where we could create/design our own CUPNOODLES.

We arrived at the museum at 3:00pm, which was quite late because the museum closes at 4:00pm. Therefore, we rushed to line up at the My CUPNOODLES Factory first without looking at any other exhibitions. After Sharon and I both purchased 2 cups each (one cup costs ¥300), we then proceeded to decorating our cups.

After completing our designs, we then proceeded to following the designated steps to completing our own cup noodle package such as: putting the dry noodles in each cup; choosing our preferred soup base and toppings; sealing the cup; shrink-wrapping the cup; and finally encasing the cup in an "air bubble".

The whole process took about 45 minutes and we ended up with our cup noodles by 3:45pm, leaving just enough time to explore the rest of the museum. The museum itself is not very big, so you don't need to allow yourself, say, an extra hour to see the rest of the exhibits. I especially liked the Instant Noodles Tunnel because it really shows how much instant noodles has evolved and changed over the past few decades.

While the Momofuku Ando Instant Ramen Museum is not the most convenient place to get to (being 40 minutes away by train from Osaka), it's an attraction that both children and adults will enjoy. Plus, you get to bring home an affordable and customised souvenir that's super unique.
