Hello Kitty Café (헬로키티카페)

Sunday, 21 February 2016

We originally had Jongmyo Shrine (종묘) on our itinerary after wearing hanbok, but because it was so cold, we gave it a miss (sob) and headed back to Myeongdong (명동) to visit Hello Kitty Café (헬로키티 카페) instead. (That day was actually the first time I saw falling snow!)

I'm not a huge Hello Kitty fan and neither are my sisters, but I think it's one of those cafés that you should visit at least once in your life—just to see how it looks in real life. Honestly, it was just how I imagined it to be: pink, Hello Kitty everything, but with very mediocre food. What I was mostly surprised about was pricing of the merchandise because it wasn't very expensive. In Sydney, a small Hello Kitty plush costs about AUD$25-40, but they were only selling them for about 19,000 won in the café.

As a rule of the café, you have to order at least one drink per person, so we got: hot chocolate, sweet potato latte and green tea latte. Honestly, they were all pretty bad—the worst drinks we had in Seoul, in fact. The drinks look good, but they were way too sweet, especially the hot chocolate.

I really like the idea of themed cafés, but unless you're big on Hello Kitty and you want to buy some of the merchandise, the store isn't worth a visit—at least, not the Myeongdong one. I think we should've went to the main store in Hongdae (홍대) because from what I see from other people's photos, it's much bigger and even includes a gift shop, outdoor seating area AND bedroom!
