Bukchon Son Mandu

If you're a big fan of dumplings or mandu (만두), Bukchon Son Mandu (북촌손만두) will be an absolute gem for you. My sister and I LOVE mandu so we've been wanting to go to this place for years since Simon and Martina made a video about back in 2012. The first branch we went to was the one in Insadong (인사동), which is located right next to Ssamziegil 쌈지길). It's very easy to find—just look for that beautiful plume of steam. We had these dumplings as a snack after lunch (as you do), and we ordered a plate of combination dumplings (모듬만두), which consisted of: 3 steamed dumplings (찐만두), 3 fried dumplings (튀김만두) and 3 ball dumplings (굴림만두).

The second time we went to Bukchon Son Mandu was at the Dongdaemun (동대문) branch, and we we ordered the king combination dumplings plate (특모듬만두), which is the same as the combination dumplings, but includes prawn dumplings (새우만두), and a bowl of Bukchon bloody cold noodles (북촌피냉면).

I usually avoid eating fried foods, but OMG the fried dumpling was amazing—I've never had something so crispy before! It was definitely my most favourite one because I wasn't particularly impressed with the skin of the steamed dumplings. Overall, the food wasn't perfect but we had a decent feed at both locations nonetheless. The dumplings were flavourful, and the filling had good proportions of meat, vegetables and clear noodles.
