Review: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush (Incandescent Electra)

Sunday, 11 September 2016

Blush is such a staple product for many beauty lovers, but it was something I didn't dare of using because my foundation and concealer would always rub off and reveal my freckles if anything touched my cheeks after the application of powder. If no blush meant that my freckles would be covered, then no blush it is. (But I would secretly get so jealous of girls who can add that flush of rosiness to their cheeks to complete their look.) However, now that I've found my holy grail primer that can make everything set, I can actually put blush on my cheeks without everything moving all over the place. Now I'm like "Where have you been all my life?!" But more importantly, it makes me look more alive. I'm pale as it is, so without some redness on my cheeks, I look washed out.

Hourglass' Ambient Lighting Blush comes in 7 shades:
  • Incandescent Electra: a cool peach.
  • Ethereal Glow: a cool pink.
  • Diffused Heat: a vibrant poppy.
  • Dim Infusion: a subdued coral.
  • Luminous Flush: a champagne rose.
  • Radiant Magenta: a golden fuchsia.
  • Mood Exposure: a soft plum.
I believe the most popular shades are Diffused Heat and Luminous Flush. I was contemplating on either of the two, or Dim Infusion—given my light complexion—but once I tried them in store, I actually liked Incandescent Electra the most. What drew me into getting this line of blushes is because it's almost a blush and highlighter in one, and the fact that the powders are all handmade so that the pattern of each blush is different makes it very unique.

According to Hourglass, Incandescent Electra is described as "a cool peach", which I think that translates into a shimmery light-medium pink with yellow undertones. I specifically chose a pink/peach blush with a warmer undertone as opposed to one with a cooler undertone like Radiant Magenta because I know that it won't be the wrong colour for me. Although the shimmers look quite noticeable on my hand in the photos below, they are actually very subtle when applied to the face. I personally love shimmers because it gives my face a very natural glow. The colour is not too pigmented with one swipe (which is good), but it is buildable.

Personally, I would've preferred a bit more of the highlight colour in my blush, but I still love it nonetheless. It's also a very handy product to have if you're travelling so you don't have bring a highlighter and a blush.

As you would expect in a product worth $57, the blush is enclosed in a rose golden hard plastic container with a mirror conveniently lined inside. The outside of the case is prone to smudges, but overall, the packaging feels really sturdy and luxurious.

If you're looking for a really high-quality blush, I would definitely recommend this product. However, if you own the famous NARS blush in Orgasm, I'd suggest you get a different shade because I bought both blushes around the same time and the colours look almost identical on my face (which is a little disappointing).
